Strategy’s Michael Saylor wants USA to hold 20% of all Bitcoin – Why?

Michael Saylor, the visionary behind Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), is pushing for the United States to secure 20% of the total Bitcoin supply in a bid to solidify its position of power in the future.

During a recent address at the CPAC conservative conference, Saylor emphasized,

“There is only space for a single nation to hold 20% of the Bitcoin network, and it is my firm belief that this nation should be the United States. I have every confidence that it will indeed be the United States.”

Addressing U.S. Financial Burdens

Saylor also highlighted that if the U.S. were to possess 20% of BTC swiftly, it could potentially alleviate a portion of its financial liabilities.

“The U.S. could establish ownership of 20% of the ‘Bitcoin’ network in no time. This move would bolster the dollar, enrich the nation, and the real possibility lies in holding 4-6 million BTC, which could facilitate the clearing of the national debt.”

The leading advocate for Bitcoin reiterated that only one nation can secure 20% of BTC, emphasizing the importance of the U.S. taking the lead over entities like Saudis, Russians, Chinese, or Europeans.

He further expressed,

“Owning above 4 million BTC is a strategic approach to enhance our wealth and position us as a major creditor in the span of a decade. This strategy could secure our dominance in the digital financial arena for the forthcoming century.”

Presently, the United States carries approximately $36 trillion in national debt. Saylor projected that Bitcoin’s current market capitalization of $2 trillion could escalate to $20 trillion within the subsequent 4-8 years, signifying a tenfold growth potential in under a decade. He remains optimistic that such an accumulation could aid in mitigating a fraction of the national debt.

It is worth mentioning that Polymarket’s assessment of a 45% likelihood indicates that the market has not completely factored in this scenario yet.

Nonetheless, Saylor believes that Bitcoin acts as a leveling force, empowering individuals and smaller entities to challenge established players. In addition, he drew a parallel between Strategy’s performance and that of Microsoft.

For context, Strategy currently holds 478k BTC, representing 2.28% of the total Bitcoin supply, and is likely to reach the milestone of 500k coins soon. Besides, its stock, MSTR, has emerged as one of the top-performing equities in recent times, registering a remarkable 370% surge in 2024.
