A groundbreaking HBO film titled “Digital Currency Revealed: The Enigma of Bitcoin” is geared up to unravel the enduring enigma of Satoshi Nakamoto, the mastermind behind Bitcoin [BTC].
Helmed by the same filmmaker famous for exposing the enigmatic individuals of QAnon, this documentary is poised to illuminate one of the most substantial enigmas of contemporary technology.
Amidst buzz within the cryptocurrency community and speculations on platforms like Polymarket, theories are now suggesting that Leonard “Len” Sassaman might possibly be Nakamoto.
Scheduled to premiere on October 8th, the film aims to reignite debates surrounding the speculations about Bitcoin’s inventor that have been circulating since its inception in 2009.
Polymarket Betting Trends
Nick Szabo has also emerged as a prime contender for Satoshi Nakamoto on Polymarket in anticipation of HBO’s forthcoming documentary.
Mere days ago, Szabo’s likelihood of being Satoshi rose to 27.9%, surpassing cryptographer Len Sassaman at 14%, and Blockstream CEO Adam Back at 4.3%.
For those not in the loop, Sassaman initially led the pack with odds as high as 68% shortly after the market commenced on October 4th.
Nevertheless, his support dwindled following statements made by producer Cullen Hoback on CNN.
Is Sassaman the Real Satoshi?
Hoback disclosed that he had a confrontation with an individual he believes is the true Satoshi, effectively ruling out Sassaman, who passed away in 2011.
“We present a compelling argument […] and I believe their reaction speaks volumes beyond the evidence itself.”
To compound the uncertainty, Sassaman’s widow, Meredith L. Patterson, went on record stating that her late husband is not Satoshi and highlighted that HBO did not contact her during the documentary’s production.
Patterson mentioned,
“I sometimes ponder whether I am influencing the prediction markets by responding honestly when queried, but to cut a long story short, who cares.”
As per the latest information from Polymarket, Nick Szabo now stands at 10.3%, with Adam Back following closely at 9.6%.
Interestingly, despite the unfolding scenario, Len Sassaman maintained the lead with a 12% betting rate.
Meme Coin Market Benefits from the Buzz
Despite the ongoing turmoil regarding the identity of Bitcoin’s architect, some traders have seized opportunities to capitalize on themed tokens.
In recent times, meme coins inspired by cryptographer Len Sassaman—potentially to be uncovered as Satoshi Nakamoto in an imminent HBO documentary—have begun surfacing on the Solana [SOL], Ethereum [ETH], and BTC networks.
Opportunistic traders minted LEN tokens on these networks, achieving multi-million dollar market capitalizations before experiencing a subsequent decline.
One such LEN token, claimed to be the pioneer on SOL, observed a significant price surge last week, now valued at over $1.6 million.
Moreover, SASHA tokens, named after Sassaman’s feline companion, have amassed market capitalizations exceeding $5 million.
Crypto enthusiasts have even reached out to Sassaman’s widow, Meredith L. Patterson, via X (formerly Twitter), seeking guidance on these meme coins and in return, receiving a Solana address for token donations.
Interestingly, some traders have created tokens based on Sassaman’s pets, including his feline friend Sasha, while others speculate that ODIN, another feline, held a special place in Sassaman’s heart.
