The much-anticipated GRASS airdrop by Grass Network encountered a bumpy launch, causing frustration among users who faced difficulties in accessing their tokens.
What Transpired?
The unprecedented demand led to a significant downtime for the wallet service provider Phantom, which remained unresponsive for almost three hours on 28 October as users rushed to claim their GRASS tokens.
As per Phantom’s status update, a backend glitch disrupted services at 1:36 P.M. UTC, with normal operations resuming at 4:20 P.M. UTC.
This outage marked the second service disruption this month, following a brief eight-minute downtime on 3 October.
In response, the Phantom team posted on X, stating,
“We are currently facing an uptime incident and some services might encounter temporary disruptions. If you urgently need to carry out a transaction, please disregard simulation errors and attempt to use a dapp.”
User Frustration Vent
An hour into the GRASS airdrop initiation, numerous users vented their frustration on X due to the inability to access the airdropped tokens.
Several users reported that despite being initially marked as eligible on Grass Network’s airdrop checker, their wallet addresses showed the message – “not eligible.”
This unforeseen issue left many participants bewildered and disheartened as they awaited access to their distributed tokens.
One user on X expressed disappointment over the ordeal, saying,
Grass Crypto’s Airdrop Strategy
In the bigger picture, this airdrop, hailed as one of the most significant recent launches, saw the Grass Foundation allocate 10% of the capped 1-billion supply of GRASS tokens.
Of this, 1.5% is earmarked for early closed alpha testers, while an additional 7% is distributed among participants across Epochs 1 – 7.
Nevertheless, the absence of specifics about allocations for the Bonus Epoch and upcoming distribution plans in the initial rollout has only intensified dissatisfaction among supporters, especially given their consistent apprehensions about the model.
After resolving the issue, Phantom announced on X that their team would “closely oversee the situation” and enforce measures to prevent future disruptions.
Any More Developments?
Following the trend, the GRASS token saw significant price fluctuations post-launch. Shortly after being introduced, the token’s value plummeted by 28%, touching a low of $0.65, before rebounding by 9%.
However, the latest data from CoinGecko indicates that at the time of writing, GRASS was trading at $1.10, marking a 20.4% surge in the past 24 hours.
Undoubtedly, several airdrops have encountered their fair share of obstacles, with Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) serving as another prominent example.
Such instances underscore the intricate and occasionally tumultuous nature of token distributions, particularly amidst soaring demand and technical hurdles.
